There is uniform agreement that the ASUS Republic of Games is one of the best series that has come into the motherboard market. Of course, if one were to compare individual boards, it is possible that a board here or there could outshine one of the RoG ones, but as a series, there is very little to match the lineup that ASUS provided through the RoG series. And to beat them all comes the new Asus Rampage III Gene X58 Motherboard.

The Asus Rampage III Gene Motherboard is believed to be a more compact, less-featured version of the very popular, full-featured ASUS Rampage III Extreme and many refer to it as the little brother to the Extreme version. It is true that though the Asus Rampage III Gene Motherboard is also an X58 based Micro ATX board, there are fewer features to be found in it than the much bigger ASUS Rampage III Extreme. On the other hand, it is also R1, 500 less than it making users curious about the kind of performance that the Rampage III Gene can provide.

Looking at the overall layout, it is obvious that everything is pretty much the same as the previous GENE II version. Yet, ASUS manages to fit in not just six DIMM slots that can handle DDR3 memory but also have enough room to accommodate big coolers. In keeping with the Micro ATX board tradition, the battery is vertically mounted. The board includes probelt points for those would like to hook their multimeters in to see just how far their hardware can go. On the other hand, the Asus Rampage III Gene does not provide an IDE connector anymore, which pretty much rules out using any older devices.
When one starts comparing the technology features, the first thing to notice is the Marvell 9128 controller that helps support SATA 6Gb/s. There is better support for audio as well since the Asus Rampage III Gene now has SupremeFX that provides true THX TrueStudio compatibility. There are two x16 PCIe slots along with a single PCIe x4 and also a traditional PCI slot. As mentioned earlier, there are two big coolers on the Asus Rampage III Gene that work well to maintain the temperature levels even if the Core i7 CPUs are overclocked to the maximum. This should make this board very attractive to serious overclockers who like to push their hardware to the maximum. Of course, there is now USB 3.0 support in the Asus Rampage III Gene.

In summary, the Asus Rampage III Gene is meant for the gaming enthusiasts and overclockers. From the features that have been included as well as the various benchmark tests, it is easy to conclude that it is a perfect board for gaming. With enhanced audio and the ability to take a heavy overload without heating up too much, the Asus Rampage III Gene is an excellent gaming platform.
