Corsair recently announced its brand new venture in the rapidly advancing solid state drive market- the Force Series 3 lineup; and we did not have to wait too long before the first product of the lineup hit the market in the form of the incredibly good looking Force GT Series. Now, we all- know the SSD market, as of now, is primarily being dominated by products like the SandForce series 2000 based new generation drives from brands like OCZ Inc. And luckily for us, probably that was the one primary concern Corsair bosses had in mind while preparing the launch of the Force GT. The final outcome of that obvious insecurity has eventually resulted in a better quality product, at least that what we have been hearing so far. So, we decided to give it a closer look, and find out ourselves whether or not the product is capable of sustaining the onslaughts from the more established heavy weights in the industry. Here’s what we found:

The GT Series, which comes in three variants- 60GB, 120GB and 240 GB, is largely based on the SF-2281 model, but with more advanced ONFi 2 NAND for keeping it in sync with the leading names in the market. The price of the GT series starts from R1,500, and ranges up to well above R5,000. The model which lies there in our testing table is sizes 120 GB, and comes with a decent price tag of R2,400 (yes, you guessed it right- the GT 120 GB is Corsair’s answer to OCZ’s Vertex 3 120GB (R3,500) but at low price. meaning better performance, less price = winning :)
The drive, in reality comprises of sixteen 8GB NAND chips, resulting in an overall capacity of 128 GB. However, when you use the device, your OS will show you only 120 GB- worry not, there is a reason behind this too! It’s a common practice amongst vendors to raise the IOPS performance level as well as for extending the life cycle.

HDD2 - Gaming
HDD3 - Windows Photo Gallery
HDD4 - Vista Startup
HDD5 - Windows Movie Maker
HDD6 - Windows Media Center
HDD7 - Windows Media Player
HDD8 - Application Loading
The Corsair Force GT outperformed every other drive in this series of tests and even managed to perform better than the 240GB Vertex 3.
To sum it up, lets have a look at all the pros and cons that the GT 120 MB. The product is extremely good looking- fits for the title “eye candy”. Corsair’s rather strong reputation in customer services and offers the product with a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch adapter. The Performance level has increased significantly in comparison to the previous generation models.
So, all in all, the Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD is a pretty high performing solid state drive, and hence it deserves no less than a score of 4.8 rating points out of five on our scale of excellency and reliability.
