The Intel’s Lynnfield platform had impressed many in the enthusiast as well as the mainstream market. Its new CPU-powered PCI Express controller and 1156-pin socket had been revealed in an exciting lineup of processors. The Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard is one such augmented motherboard that comes with a triple enhancement that allows it to climb right at the top of motherboards that offer the Intel P55 chipset. First is the Gigabyte’s claim that the motherboard offers a 333 Onboard Acceleration. In reality, the board has USB 2.0 slots that can deliver higher voltages in order to support external hard drives, a Marvell SE9128 controller SATA III offering 6.0 GB/s hard drive transfers and a pair of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports that allow easy integration of high-speed peripherals. It was easy for Gigabyte to provide these extra features by simply building on the core features included in the P55 chipset.
The Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard also has support for the 1156 socket that can accommodate Core i5 700 series and the Core i7 800 series CPUs. These can installed along with 16 GB RAM with DDR3 memory (with four memory slots). Gaming enthusiasts will appreciate that the board supports a single videocard in x16 mode or a dual-videocard in an x8/x8 PCI Express 2.0 configuration (with Crossfire or SLI).
The other enhancement worth mentioning in the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard is the Ultra Durable 3 technology developed by Gigabyte. This includes better quality copper PCB as well as solid-state capacitors; a twelve-phase VRM power setup and a wonderful Smart 6 suite of utilities.
There are plenty of storage options in the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard. The Marvell SE9128 is a little controller chip that can actually use two SATA II ports operating at 6GB/s with compliant SATA III hard drives. Of course, if one is only using mechanical SATA III hard drives, the difference in performance might not be noticeable. On the other hand, the real benefits can be seen immediately when the latest generation of solid state disk drives (SSDs) are used.

Gigabyte claims that with the three unique features such as the USB 3.0, 3x USB power and the SATA III connection, it is truly offering a triple enhancement over all other motherboards. There is no doubt that the closest competitor that Gigabyte has for its Lynnfield platform motherboards is the ASUS P7P55D Deluxe and this is priced at R2,600. The ASUS P7P55D Deluxe and the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboards offer more or less the same stable overclocking speed of about 4.06 GHz and high performance. However, the Gigabyte motherboard at R2,299 USD is cheaper than the ASUS one, making it the more attractive option.
