Let us start with the packaging of the product. We are a bit disappointed with the rather ordinary packaging of this product and feel that NZXT could have done a better job. After all, the packaging of some of its computer cases like NZXT Tempest and NZXT Whisper is really pleasing on the eyes. But we can ignore this shortcoming when we consider that NZXT had never attached too much importance on looks. It has always believed in the quality and performance of its cases and in this department we admit that we have never been disappointed. The box like any other cover box contains the list of features of the case along with its picture to grab the attention of the prospective customers.
When we look at their product itself we find that it is a small case and is light weight as well. NZXT Vulcan mATX case measures 16(W) X 7(H)x 16.6(D) inches and has a weight of 5.80 kgs without any power supply. But do not let its size beguile you as it has a lot of amazing features to offer.
The exterior is done completely in black and looks pretty attractive. Despite its small size it can accommodate four 5.25 inches drive bays and two 3.5 inches external drive bays. Apart from this, there are also five exhaust fans to beat the heat. One 120mm fan is located at the side while one such fan is placed at the front. We can also see that NZXT has fitted two 120mm fans at the top of the case and the rear has been furnished with a single 80mm fans for the cooling effect. Thus we see that though this case is not a large one, NZXT has not compromised on the quality of the cooling system and undoubtedly this feature is one of the highlights of this product. Like other cases from this brand ,this case also has control keys to adjust the speed of the front and the top fans.
On the top of the case we found the regular features like headphones, a microphone besides the power and the reset switch. Two USB ports and a single ESATA ports have also been placed there. As we move to the side panels of this case we discover a mesh inside which the 12cm exhaust fan is fixed. There are holes and rubber grommets to control the noise produced. So we can see that NZXT has paid attention this aspect also which is quite welcome. At the otherwise ,we see that there is extra space to conceal you cables so that your case remains clutter free.
At the back of the NZXT Vulcan mATX case we also see two dents to facilitate water cooling of the system along with a fan. Beneath these properties NZXT has fixed the I/O port and other openings for additional cards like sound cards. At the bottom, there is a space to install the power supply. It needs to be mentioned that the power supply is an optional feature of this case and an ATX power supply is compatible with it.
Finally at the very base of this case ,there is a space to fix the fan filter. There are also four rubber feet attached at the bottom of the case to raise it . These feet also aid in circulating sufficient flow of air to keep the power supply cool and even prevent dust from accumulating inside the case.
As we are done with the exterior of this power supply, let us now move to the interior. When we open the case we were really surprised to find so much space inside . We did not expect this because NZXT Vulcan mATX case is a micro case. There is enough room to mount the motherboard easily. You can use either the microATX or ITX motherboard in this computer case. On the right side of the case there is a hard drive rack which has space to accommodate two drives. Besides it there is a 12cm fan.
At the front of the case, we see two optical drive bays as well as two 3.5inches internal drive bays where you can easily install any additional hard drive or even a media cared reader. At the back of the case, there are four slots to install one graphic card and one sound card or two graphics cards apart from wifi. One important property of this case is that it has the room to accommodate large sized graphic cards like the ATI 5970. Right above the expansion slots, there is an 80mm fan besides a 120mm fan at the top to maintain the right temperature inside the computer case.
We thus find that NZXT has introduced another high quality product in the market.
