How to Choose a Monitor
The best monitor balances resolution, refresh rate and panel type for how you play and work — and your GPU has to keep up. Use the guide below to choose.
1080p suits budget and competitive esports; 1440p is the sweet spot on 27-inch screens for sharpness and high frame rates; 4K gives the most detail but needs a powerful GPU for high frame rates. Match resolution to screen size and your graphics card.
Higher refresh (144Hz, 240Hz+) means smoother motion and a competitive edge; 60–75Hz is fine for general use. Look for low response time (1ms) and low input lag for esports. Your GPU must sustain the frame rate to benefit.
IPS gives the best colour and viewing angles for gaming and creative work. VA offers higher contrast and suits curved, immersive displays. OLED delivers the deepest blacks and fastest response for premium setups. Choose by what you value most.
Variable refresh (NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync) syncs the monitor to your GPU to remove tearing and stutter. Match the technology to your graphics card; most modern monitors support FreeSync and many are G-Sync compatible.
27-inch suits 1440p; 32-inch and ultrawide suit immersion and productivity; curved panels wrap larger screens around you. Check the inputs — HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort for high-refresh 4K — and USB-C if you want to connect a laptop.
