How to Choose a 3D Printer
The right printer matches the detail, size and materials you need, and your experience level. Use the guide below to choose.
FDM printers melt filament and are versatile, affordable and great for functional parts and larger prints. Resin printers cure liquid resin for very fine detail — ideal for miniatures and models, but with more cleanup. Choose by what you print.
The build volume sets the largest object you can print in one piece. Pick a size that fits your typical projects, with some headroom — bigger isn't always better if you mostly print small parts.
Some printers are near plug-and-play with auto bed levelling, while others reward tinkering with more control. Match the printer to your patience and experience, especially for a first machine.
FDM handles PLA, PETG and tougher filaments like ABS and ASA (some need an enclosure); resin printers use standard and speciality resins. Check the materials a printer supports against your projects.
Most printers work with popular slicers like Cura and PrusaSlicer, and connect via USB, SD card or Wi-Fi. Confirm slicer compatibility and that filaments and spares are easy to get locally.
