An RTX 5090 laptop is the fastest mobile graphics you can buy, but two machines with the same GPU can perform very differently. What actually separates them is the power limit (TGP) the chassis allows, the cooling that keeps the GPU there, the CPU and memory paired with it, and the display. A thin 16-inch model and an 18-inch desktop-replacement can both carry the RTX 5090, yet the larger chassis usually sustains a higher wattage and runs quieter under load.
Decide first what you are optimising for: raw sustained performance and a big high-refresh screen, or portability and battery life. Then match the display resolution and refresh rate to that GPU - a 2560x1600 240Hz Mini LED or 4K OLED panel makes the most of the card. The factors below cover what to weigh before you buy.
