Which RTX 5070 laptops come with 12GB of VRAM?

NVIDIA confirmed the 12GB configuration during 2026, with the first machines reaching buyers around the middle of the year and ASUS among the makers adopting it. Both capacities stay on sale alongside each other, so the memory figure printed on an individual product listing is the only reliable check.

Is an RTX 5070 enough for 1440p at 144Hz?

In most titles yes, with settings at high rather than maximum and DLSS running in quality mode. Competitive shooters clear 144fps easily. Heavy single-player releases with ray tracing switched on will need upscaling, and often frame generation as well, to hold that figure.

How does it compare with the RTX 5060 in an ASUS laptop?

It has 4,608 cores against 3,328 and a higher power ceiling, which works out at roughly a tier's worth of frame rate. If the real choice is between a generously powered 5060 and a heavily power-limited 5070, that gap narrows enough for price to make the decision.

How well does it handle ray tracing?

Competently, using fourth-generation RT cores, but this is a mid-range part. Plan on combining ray tracing with DLSS upscaling at 1440p rather than running path-traced modes natively. The 12GB build copes better once ray tracing and high texture settings are stacked on top of each other.

Will it suit video editing and 3D work?

It handles 4K editing, NVENC encoding and moderate 3D scenes well. Render times scale with core count, so a larger card finishes sooner, and any scene needing more than 8GB will want the 12GB version to stay resident in video memory instead of falling back to slower system RAM.

Which ASUS ranges carry this GPU?

TUF Gaming for value-focused builds, ROG Strix G16 where sustained power matters, and ROG Zephyrus where thinness and battery life come first. The Zephyrus M16 name that appears in older write-ups has since been folded into the Zephyrus G line.

Can I attach an external graphics dock?

Only on models that genuinely carry Thunderbolt or USB4 output, which is not universal across ASUS gaming laptops. Even where the port exists, the link adds latency and makes little sense on a machine that already has a capable discrete GPU. Read the port list on the specification sheet before assuming it is there.

The 1440p Tier, Now in Two Memory Sizes

The RTX 5070 Laptop GPU pairs 4,608 Blackwell cores with GDDR7, and during 2026 it began shipping in both 8GB and 12GB forms. ASUS fits it across TUF Gaming, ROG Strix G16 and ROG Zephyrus bodies at graphics power levels anywhere from 50W to 100W.

Picking the Right RTX 5070 Configuration

Two laptops can both say RTX 5070 on the lid and behave differently, for two separate reasons. The first is memory: NVIDIA added a 12GB version of the same GPU during 2026 without changing the core count. The second is the power the chassis permits, specified between 50W and 100W before Dynamic Boost is counted.

Both carry 4,608 CUDA cores at the same clocks; the larger build simply uses denser 3GB memory modules in place of 2GB ones. Capacity does not add speed, it removes a wall, and texture-heavy titles at 1440p, ray tracing and frame generation all draw on it at once. Where the two sit at similar prices, take the bigger one.

A TUF Gaming model tuned around battery life and a ROG Strix G16 tuned for sustained load can be a fifth apart with identical chips inside. ASUS publishes the number as total graphics power on each specification page. If frame rate is the priority, look for a configuration at or close to 100W with Dynamic Boost enabled.

At matched power this card lands close to the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU in traditional rasterised rendering, because the core count did not move. What it adds is fifth-generation Tensor cores, DLSS 4 support and GDDR7 bandwidth. Buy it for the feature set and the memory options rather than in expectation of a large raw uplift.

Some builds leave the factory with a single SO-DIMM to reach a price, which halves memory bandwidth and costs frames in processor-bound games. Two matched modules is the target. Check whether a model uses socketed DDR5 or soldered LPDDR5X first, since the Zephyrus line frequently solders it and cannot be changed afterwards.

1440p at high refresh is where the card is comfortable, and ASUS pairs it with 16-inch 2560x1600 panels at 165Hz or 240Hz. A 1080p screen leaves headroom unused, while a 4K screen outruns the card unless upscaling does most of the work. Match the panel to the resolution you will genuinely play at.

That makes the specification sheet matter more at this tier than anywhere else in the range. Read the memory figure and the graphics power figure together, then decide. On its own the model name tells you very little about how a given machine will perform.
