Apple Silicon
Apple puts the processor, graphics, Neural Engine, memory and storage controller on a single piece of silicon, then writes macOS against that exact layout. Data does not have to cross a motherboard to reach memory.
What you notice is a laptop that wakes as the lid lifts, keeps the same speed on battery as on mains, and runs cool enough that Apple leaves the fan out entirely.

Most portable
A 13.6-inch Liquid Retina panel at roughly 1.24kg and 11.3mm, with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe 3 charging and a headphone jack. This is the size that survives lectures, trains and coffee tables without reminding you it is in the bag.
More room to work
A 15.3-inch panel in a chassis of 11.5mm and about 1.51kg. The extra width earns its place in split-screen work, wide editing timelines and spreadsheets that refuse to fit. Six speakers here instead of four.
Four finishes
Sky Blue, Silver, Starlight and Midnight. Each is anodised recycled aluminium, so the finish carries from lid to keyboard deck to base rather than stopping at the shell.
Battery and charging
Apple rates the Air at up to 18 hours of video playback. Reaching about half a charge in thirty minutes needs the 70W adapter with a MagSafe 3 or USB-C cable; smaller adapters still charge, only slower.
For students
Touch ID, instant wake and a chassis that stays silent in a packed lecture hall. Light enough to carry between campuses, quick enough that referencing and group edits never stall.
For creators
Lightroom edits, Final Cut cuts, Logic sessions and Figma files all run on integrated graphics and a wide-colour display. Long renders settle to a lower sustained clock than a fan-cooled Mac holds, which is the honest trade for silence.
