The mobile RTX 5090 is built on the GB203 die, the same silicon as the desktop RTX 5080 rather than the far larger chip behind the desktop 5090. That sets expectations rather than criticising it. Measured against the previous mobile flagship the gain in games is real but moderate; the memory jump from 16GB to 24GB is the headline change.
Power is the other half of the story. NVIDIA rates the part at 150W with a further 25W of Dynamic Boost, and only a chassis cooled for a sustained 175W will show what it can do. A slimmer machine wearing the same GPU name will settle lower down the chart and stay there.
