4 Reasons to buy the HTC VIVE
Although there are a great many VR-based devices in the market, one stands out in particular – the HTC Vive. The Vive currently holds the top spot for Virtual Reality PC Gaming, beating out the Oculus Rift. Let’s go over why the Vive should be your next VR-gaming headset.
1. Larger VR Space
The Oculus Rift is designed as a PC gaming peripheral, much like your mouse and keyboard. Hence, you will rarely move outside the space right in front of your monitor. In fact, the maximum VR space for the Rift is 5ft X 11ft.
On the other hand, the HTC Vive was created to deliver a full immersion experience. This VR device allows you to get up and walk around the virtual world, as if you were actually in it. You won’t be tethered to a specific area.
2. Front Camera
This is more of a safety feature for the Vive because walking around the room, while only being able to see the virtual world, seems like a wondrous experience. Until you are smacked in the head by the nearest wall, that is.
The HTC Vive’s Chaperone system works in conjunction with a front camera on your headset, instantly producing an outline of the real world if you get too close to a solid object. Interestingly, this could pave the way for Augmented Reality applications in the future as well.
However, the Oculus Rift has no similar safety feature, and doesn’t have a camera. Hence, a shift towards the Augmented Reality space wouldn’t bode well for it.
3. Fine Adjustments
Although the HTC Vive is a much larger device than the Oculus Rift is, it does have a few tricks up its sleeve that justify the size somewhat.
On the Vive, you can make fine adjustments to the space between the lenses and your eyes. This feature is especially useful for gamers who wear eyeglasses. You can actually remove your glasses and play, without having any visual discomfort whatsoever.
4. Other Bells and Whistles
The Oculus snaps the connection with the outside world. Completely. Once you’re in, you’re in. Until you take off the headset at least. However, the HTC Vive on the other hand has several features that allow you to integrate your real life into your VR gaming experience.
Connect your phone using Bluetooth – granting you the capability to listen to messages or answer calls without having to remove your headset at all.
Pause your game and use the front camera to navigate your room, check your PC for something important, and so much more. Not having to remove your headset for every little task makes the HTC Vive much more convenient.
