How to Choose a Power Supply
The right PSU has enough wattage, good efficiency, the correct connectors and reliable protection. Use the guide below to choose.
Add your GPU and CPU power draw, then leave 200–350W of headroom for drives, fans and upgrades. A high-end GPU build typically wants 850–1000W; mid-range builds are comfortable around 650–750W.
80+ Bronze, Gold, Platinum and Titanium rate how efficiently a PSU converts power — higher means less wasted energy and heat. Gold is the value sweet spot for most gaming builds.
Modern GPUs use the 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) connector. An ATX 3.x PSU includes it natively and handles GPU power spikes better, so it's the safer choice for a current high-end card.
Fully modular PSUs let you use only the cables you need for a cleaner build and better airflow; semi- and non-modular units cost less. Choose modular if cable management matters to you.
Look for OVP, OCP, OPP and short-circuit protection and a solid warranty. With local power fluctuations and outages, a quality PSU plus a UPS helps protect your whole system.
