How to Choose a Scale Figure
The two decisions that matter most are scale (how big it is and how much shelf it needs) and the character or series you want. After that it's sculpt quality, pose and your budget. The notes below cover what to check before you buy.
The fraction is the figure's size relative to the character's notional real height — so a smaller denominator means a bigger figure. 1/4 and 1/6 are large showpieces; 1/7 and 1/8 are the common shelf sizes. Always check the listed height so you know it fits your space before ordering.
Scale figures are built to a defined scale with finer detail, larger size and a higher price, often in limited or standard retail runs. Prize figures are mass-produced for arcade prizes and cost less, with simpler detail. Choose a scale figure when you want a display centrepiece.
Most use PVC for the main body and ABS for thinner or load-bearing parts like weapons, hair tips and bases. Higher-end pieces may use resin for sharper detail. PVC and ABS are durable for display but should be kept out of direct sun and heat.
A 1/8 figure suits a normal shelf, while 1/7 is a little larger. 1/6, 1/4 and bigger need real cabinet depth and height, so measure your space first. A glass cabinet also keeps dust and UV off the paintwork.
They typically arrive boxed and largely pre-assembled, with a display base included — you mainly attach the figure to its stand. Keep the original box for safe storage or transport. Handle painted and translucent parts carefully when posing.
