A Mini-ITX board is defined by its size: 170 x 170mm with one expansion slot and two memory slots. That means the board itself rarely limits performance, but it does limit expansion, so the decisions that matter are socket and platform, chipset tier, memory headroom, storage layout and, above all, physical fit inside a small case.
Start from your CPU platform, then work outward to VRM and cooling, storage, and case clearance. Because SFF enclosures run warmer and tighter than a mid-tower, a board with a solid power stage and good M.2 heatsinks pays off more here than in a full-size build.
