When 32GB Earns Its Place
Thirty-two gigabytes has become the default for a new gaming desktop, and the reason has less to do with any single game than with what runs beside it. A browser holding a dozen tabs, a voice client, a launcher, a capture tool and an open-world title streaming textures will comfortably occupy more than sixteen. Games on their own rarely demand that much; the way people actually use a machine often does.
The calculation changed this year. Manufacturers moved production capacity towards the memory that feeds AI systems, DDR5 pricing rose steeply as a result, and the step up from 16GB now costs real money rather than being a rounding error on a build sheet. That makes it worth knowing exactly what the capacity does for you before paying for it, and worth buying it with the machine rather than planning to add it later.
