This is now the default landing spot for an AMD build. AMD has been winding down the previous mainstream chipset in favour of the 800-series part, so a mid-range socket AM5 board bought today most often carries this badge. Both generations are built on the same chipset silicon, which means the interesting differences are not in raw chipset performance but in what AMD obliges board makers to implement.

One requirement defines the tier: the primary M.2 slot has to run at the newer PCIe generation with four lanes. That was optional on the previous mainstream chipset and is guaranteed here. Two things are deliberately left open, and both catch buyers out. The sixteen-lane graphics slot may run at either generation depending on the model, and 40Gbps USB4 is permitted but not required, which is exactly what separates this tier from the enthusiast one above it.

Everything else is a board-level decision rather than a chipset one, so two products wearing the same three characters can differ considerably. Slot count, networking speed, rear port mix, memory layout and whether the board uses back-connector cabling are all chosen by the manufacturer.
