For anyone shipping to Apple platforms the choice is already made, because Xcode and the signing tools run on macOS and nowhere else. The interesting question is what the rest of a development day looks like on an arm64 desktop: containers, databases, a virtual machine or two and a browser with too many tabs, all sharing one pool of unified memory.

Most of that is now comfortable. Container images are published for arm64 as a matter of course, and the ones that are not can run through translation. The parts worth thinking about before ordering are how much memory the toolchain wants, how quickly build artefacts fill a small SSD, and what happens to Intel-only software over the next two macOS releases.
