This UGREEN cable takes a Mini DisplayPort male input and converts it to an HDMI male output across a single 150cm black lead. It is the one-piece answer to connecting a laptop with a Mini DP or Thunderbolt port to a TV, projector or office monitor that only offers HDMI, with no separate dongle to lose or work loose.

The cable outputs up to 4K at 30Hz on a compatible HDMI display, which is the resolution you want for photographs, presentation slides and film content where sharpness matters more than motion. Detail in text and fine graphics holds up far better than on a 1080p link, particularly on a large panel viewed from a couple of metres away.

Alongside 4K, the cable supports 1080p at 60Hz and 720p output. That matters because most boardroom projectors, older televisions and budget office monitors still top out at 1080p, and 60Hz is the mode that keeps cursor movement and video playback smooth. Signal conversion is handled by a PS8402A chipset built into the connector housing rather than by a passive wiring trick. An active chipset is what allows a DisplayPort-family source to speak HDMI properly, including correct handshaking with the display. It is the component that decides whether a converter cable simply works or produces intermittent black screens.

The link carries 10.8 Gbps of bandwidth, which is the headroom that makes a 4K signal plus multichannel audio possible over a single lead. Dolby TrueHD is passed through to the HDMI display or receiver rather than being downmixed on the way.
