1080p is the resolution most video calls actually run at. Teams, Zoom and Meet compress heavily, so a good 1080p sensor with decent optics almost always looks better on the other end than a mediocre 4K one.

It is also kinder to your connection and your PC. Higher resolutions raise upload bandwidth and encoding load, which matters on typical South African home lines and on laptops doing other work at the same time.

Where the real difference shows is light handling, frame rate and the microphone. A webcam that copes with a window behind you beats one with more pixels and worse exposure every time.
