The Promate TripMate-GaN70R puts 70W of USB output into a single travel plug, enough to run a laptop alongside a phone and an accessory. It replaces the separate chargers most people pack, and GaN internals are what allow that much power in a body small enough to leave in a bag permanently.

A 70cm USB-C cable retracts into the body of the adapter and delivers up to 45W on its own. Having the cable attached means there is one less item to forget or untangle, and it pulls out only as far as needed so a short reach across an aeroplane tray does not leave a metre of slack.

The separate USB-C port runs 5V, 9V, 12V and 15V at 3A and 20V at 3.5A, for a 70W ceiling that covers most ultrabooks and every phone or tablet. It is the port to use for whichever device needs charging fastest, and it negotiates the correct voltage automatically.

The first USB-A port supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 at 30W, running 5V and 9V at 3A or 12V at 2.5A. Quick Charge is what many Android phones and older accessories actually use, so keeping a QC port alongside the USB-C outputs means older devices still charge at full speed.

A second USB-A output supplies 5V at 1A, or 5W, which suits earbuds cases, fitness trackers, small lamps and other accessories that neither need nor benefit from fast charging. Splitting them onto their own port keeps the high-output ports free for the devices that do.

Beyond the USB outputs there is a universal AC socket, rated at 1000W on a 100V supply and 2500W at 250V. That covers appliances well beyond phone chargers, so the adapter doubles as the plug for a travel iron, a small kettle or a laptop's own power brick.

A 10A fuse rating and built-in surge protection shut charging down when a power spike occurs, which is the risk that matters most on unfamiliar supplies. Since the whole point of a travel adapter is plugging into sockets you have never seen before, that protection sits between an unstable supply and your laptop.

Input covers 100-250V at 50/60Hz and 10A, which takes in the mains supply of effectively every country you would travel to. Combined with the compact body and the retractable cable, it makes one adapter enough for a trip rather than a bag pocket full of separate chargers.
