The ViewSonic SP6 is a business projector running XGA resolution at 1024 x 768 pixels, which gives sharper text and charts than SVGA in a classroom or office. At 4800 ANSI lumens the screen stays bright with the lights on, so no room needs to be darkened first, and SuperColor Technology keeps colours accurate and clean across presentations and video.

Lamp modes trade brightness for hours. With Power Saving on and no signal present, the SP6 drops to Eco Mode after five idle minutes. After 20 minutes without an input signal it moves to SuperEco Mode, dimming the projected image to 70 percent and extending lamp life to 15,000 hours on average.

Projectors are routinely left running in classrooms and meeting rooms. The sleep timer lets you choose a period of inactivity after which the projector puts itself into sleep mode, so a room that empties at the end of a session does not leave the lamp burning until someone notices later in the day.

When no signal is detected the SP6 powers itself off rather than idling on standby. That is separate from the sleep timer and covers the common case of a laptop being unplugged and carried out, conserving both energy and lamp life without anyone returning to the projector to shut it down.

A 22,000:1 high contrast ratio works with the projector's brightness to produce a usable image in any environment, including rooms with high ambient light. Contrast is what keeps text separated from its background when daylight is falling on the screen, which is why it matters alongside the lumen figure in a daytime room.

ViewSonic's proprietary SuperColor Technology displays a wide range of visible colour, giving realistic and accurate results in both bright and dark environments without sacrificing image quality. For a projector that spends most of its life showing branded slides and charts, that accuracy is what keeps a logo or a graph reading correctly.

Five presets cover the usual situations. Brightest Mode is for rooms needing maximum brightness, Presentation Mode pairs high brightness with high contrast for brightly lit spaces, Standard Mode gives enhanced colour similar to a PC or notebook, Photo Mode offers natural colour for general viewing, and Movie Mode saturates colour for dark rooms.

The SP6's HDMI port projects 3D content straight from 3D Blu-Ray players and other HDMI-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets and media players. Because the projector handles the 3D side, the source device only needs a standard HDMI output rather than any additional hardware in between.

Two settings start the projector without a button press. Direct Power On brings the SP6 up as soon as the power cord is connected, while Signal Power On starts it automatically when a VGA cable connection is detected. In a room used by a different presenter every hour, that removes the most commonly missed step.

The SP6 can be assigned one of eight remote control codes, so several projectors in the same venue can be selected, configured and operated from a single remote. The codes must be set on both the projector and the remote, and once they are, running a multi-projector lecture theatre stops being guesswork.

Vertical keystone correction squares a distorted image when the projector cannot sit level with the screen, making installation flexible. In rooms where the mounting position is already fixed, correcting geometry in software is the difference between a usable image and physically moving the unit or the screen.

The Presentation Timer is an on-screen timer embedded in the projector itself. When your specified time limit is reached it signals with a beep, keeping the session on schedule without the presenter watching a phone or waiting for someone at the back of the room to wave.

The SP6's Blank Timer hides the projected image at chosen moments so the room's attention moves from the screen back to the presenter. It can also be used as a reminder for when to take breaks, which is useful in longer sessions where the planned stopping points are easy to talk past.

The exterior carries a keypad and LED indicator for local control, a lamp cover for servicing, a security lock, and zoom and focus adjustment beside the projection lens. A front IR receiver picks up the remote from in front of the unit, which matters when it is mounted high or at the rear of a room.

The rear panel carries audio in and out, HDMI, dual VGA inputs with a VGA out, mini USB, a video input, a Kensington lock slot and RS232. Dual VGA plus VGA out lets a room take two sources and pass the signal onward, while RS232 covers control from an integrated AV system.
