Why this processor keeps turning up next to this card

AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D is an eight-core, sixteen-thread Zen 5 part carrying 96MB of L3, 64MB of which sits on a stacked cache die. In the second-generation design that die moved beneath the cores rather than above them, so heat travels straight into the cooler and the chip became the first X3D processor AMD shipped fully unlocked. Base clock is 4.7GHz, boost reaches 5.2GHz, and the rated TDP is 120W.

Cache of that size changes frame pacing more than it changes averages. Games that stream a large world, run heavy simulation ticks or push thousands of draw calls per frame keep more of their working set on the processor, and the benefit lands in the lowest one per cent of frames. Paired with a 16GB GDDR7 card in the 80-class, the combination is aimed at 1440p panels running well past 144Hz, where the processor rather than the graphics card sets the ceiling.
