Can I buy the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D in South Africa?

Yes. Evetech stocks the Ryzen 9 9950X3D - 16 cores, 32 threads and second-generation 3D V-Cache - with local Rand pricing, VAT-inclusive checkout, warranty and fast nationwide delivery. Live stock is shown on the listings on this page.

How much does the Ryzen 9 9950X3D cost in South Africa?

It is AMD's flagship desktop CPU, so it sits at the top of the Ryzen 9 range. Rather than a fixed figure, check the product cards on this page: they show the current VAT-inclusive Rand price and live stock, which move with supply and exchange rates.

What are the full specs of the 9950X3D?

16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, a 4.3GHz base clock with up to 5.7GHz boost, 144MB of total cache (16MB L2 plus 128MB L3), a 170W TDP, and Socket AM5 with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support. It is built on TSMC 4nm process technology.

Which motherboard and BIOS do I need for the 9950X3D?

It fits Socket AM5 boards - X870E, X870, X670E, X670, B850 and B650. Update to the latest BIOS before installing so the CPU posts correctly. For a 170W flagship, an X870E or X670E board with a strong VRM is the safest choice for stable boost clocks.

Does the 9950X3D game better than the standard 9950X?

Yes in most titles. The 3D V-Cache CCD gives it a clear lead over the 9950X in cache-sensitive, CPU-bound games. In heavily multithreaded productivity work the two are close, since the 9950X3D's second CCD clocks high enough to keep pace.

What cooler and power supply does a 9950X3D build need?

Plan for a 170W CPU with peak package power near 200W: a 280mm or 360mm AIO, or a high-end dual-tower air cooler, holds boost clocks steady. Use a quality 80 Plus Gold PSU - 850W with a high-end GPU, or 1000W for a 5090-class card.

What DDR5 memory should I run with the 9950X3D?

A DDR5-6000 CL30 kit with EXPO enabled is the AM5 sweet spot, keeping the memory controller in efficient 1:1 mode. Two sticks are faster and more stable than four; remember to switch on the EXPO profile in BIOS to reach the rated speed.

Should I choose the 9950X3D or the 9800X3D?

For gaming only, the 8-core 9800X3D matches it closely for less money. Pick the 9950X3D when you also render, stream, edit or compile - its extra eight cores handle heavy productivity while the V-Cache CCD keeps gaming frame rates at the top.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D - 16-core Zen 5 desktop CPU with 3D V-Cache

Buy the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D in South Africa

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is AMD's do-everything flagship: 16 Zen 5 cores and 32 threads, a 4.3GHz base with up to 5.7GHz boost, and 144MB of total cache. Second-generation 3D V-Cache sits on one CCD to lift gaming frame rates, while the second CCD clocks high for rendering, compiling and content work.

It drops into any AM5 board with a current BIOS, runs DDR5 and PCIe 5.0, and - unlike first-gen X3D chips - is fully unlocked for overclocking. Live Rand pricing, stock and VAT-inclusive totals are shown on the cards below, backed by local warranty and fast delivery across South Africa.

How to Choose an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Build

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is aimed at people who refuse to compromise: a system that tops gaming charts and still chews through rendering, code compiles and heavy multitasking. Its 16-core Zen 5 layout pairs a 3D V-Cache CCD for latency-sensitive games with a high-clocking standard CCD for throughput.

For pure gaming on a mainstream budget, the 8-core 9800X3D delivers nearly identical frame rates for less money. The 9950X matches the 9950X3D in productivity but trails it in cache-sensitive games. Choose the 9950X3D when you want the best gaming performance and full 16-core productivity in one chip, with no need to pick a side.

The 9950X3D uses Socket AM5 and works with X870E, X870, X670E, X670, B850 and B650 boards. Flash the latest BIOS before first boot so the CPU is recognised. For sustained 170W loads and overclocking, favour a board with a strong VRM and good heatsinks - X870E and X670E are the safest picks for a flagship build.

Treat it like a 170W CPU: a 280mm or 360mm AIO, or a top-tier dual-tower air cooler, keeps boost clocks stable under load. Peak package power sits near 200W. Pair with a quality 80 Plus Gold PSU - 850W is sensible with a high-end GPU, and 1000W gives headroom for a 5090-class card.

A DDR5-6000 CL30 kit running EXPO is the recommended balance for AM5, keeping the memory controller in its efficient 1:1 mode. Two sticks (2x16GB or 2x32GB) run faster and more reliably than four. Enable the EXPO profile in BIOS; without it the RAM defaults to slower JEDEC speeds.

Yes. Unlike first-generation X3D chips, the 9950X3D is fully unlocked. Second-gen 3D V-Cache places the cache beneath the compute die for better heat transfer, so you can use Precision Boost Overdrive, Curve Optimiser and manual tuning. Curve Optimiser undervolting often adds performance and lowers temperatures at the same time.

Only one of the two CCDs carries the 96MB of L3 (32MB base plus 64MB stacked). AMD's driver and Windows game-mode logic park games onto the V-Cache CCD for the frame-rate boost, while productivity apps spread across all 16 cores. Keep the AMD chipset driver and Windows updated so this core-scheduling works correctly.

For esports titles alone, a 6- or 8-core Ryzen delivers the frames you need for far less. The 9950X3D earns its place when you also stream, render, edit or run virtual machines, or when you pair it with a high-end GPU at 1440p and 4K where its cache advantage and 16 cores both get used.

Before buying, plan the platform around it - an AM5 motherboard on the right BIOS, a fast DDR5 kit, cooling that can handle a 170W TDP, and a PSU with headroom for a high-end GPU. The sections below cover the decisions that actually affect performance and value.
