F1 to F12 stay, dedicated arrow keys stay, and Insert, Home, End, Page Up and Page Down collapse into a single column running down the right edge. Most models land between 79 and 87 keys, 84 being the common count, inside roughly 30 to 33 cm of width.

That footprint is the whole point. Taking the number pad off the desk pulls the mouse closer to the centre line of the keyboard, which shortens the shoulder angle over a long session and leaves room for a wider pad. If you capture figures all day, a separate numeric keypad restores the missing block on whichever side you prefer, without permanently surrendering the desk space.
