A budget motherboard does not make a processor slower. Measured at default settings, a mid-priced board and a flagship one hold the same clocks on the same chip, and the distance between them is counted in connectivity, tuning permission and sustained power rather than in frame rates. Knowing which of those three you will actually miss is the whole of the decision.

Intel's current desktop socket carries three consumer chipsets, and the step down from the middle tier to the entry one is steeper than the price gap suggests: a narrower link to the processor, far fewer chipset lanes, thinner storage and USB provision, and no memory profile support at all.
