Two very different machines answer to this description. One targets sixty to a hundred frames in single-player releases with the detail turned up, and a mid-tier card handles it in almost everything. The other feeds a 240Hz or faster panel in competitive shooters, where the graphics card stops being the constraint and processor speed, memory latency and the game engine take over.
Where the extra money goes is the real decision. Beyond a certain point at this resolution the frame counter stops responding to a bigger graphics card, and the same spend on a faster processor, a properly configured memory kit or a better monitor changes the experience more. That ceiling arrives sooner here than at any higher resolution.
