What GPU do I need for high-refresh 1440p gaming?

For 1440p at high-to-ultra settings, a current 70-class or 80-class GPU is the sweet spot, for example an NVIDIA RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti (Blackwell, GDDR7, DLSS 4) or an AMD RX 9070 (RDNA 4, FSR 4). These cards clear 100 FPS in most titles at 1440p and give headroom for 144Hz-plus panels. Upscaling like DLSS 4 or FSR 4 adds extra frames in demanding, ray-traced games. See the live builds above for the exact cards in stock.

Which CPU should I pair with a 1440p gaming GPU so it is not held back?

Pair a 70/80-class GPU with a modern 6-to-8 core CPU that has strong single-thread performance, such as a Ryzen 7 (Zen 5) or a Core Ultra 200S chip. At 1440p the GPU does most of the work, so a high-end CPU matters less than at 1080p, but weak single-thread speed will still cap frame rates in CPU-bound competitive titles. AMD's X3D chips with extra cache are the pick if you want the highest 1% lows.

Is 16GB of RAM enough for 1440p gaming, or should I get 32GB?

16GB of DDR5 is the sensible baseline and runs almost every game fine at 1440p. Step up to 32GB if you stream, keep browser tabs and Discord open while playing, or run newer open-world titles that lean on system memory. Two matched sticks in dual channel matter more than raw capacity, so run a 2x8GB or 2x16GB kit rather than a single stick.

How much VRAM does a 1440p graphics card need?

Aim for at least 12GB of VRAM for comfortable 1440p gaming, with 16GB giving more headroom for ultra textures and ray tracing. Cards like the RTX 5070 (12GB) and RX 9070 (16GB) sit in this range. VRAM is what fills first when you raise texture quality, so a card with too little will stutter even if its raw speed is high.

What power supply and cooling does a 1440p gaming PC need?

A quality 80 Plus Gold PSU in the 650W to 850W range covers most single-GPU 1440p builds, sized to the specific graphics card. For the CPU, a good tower air cooler or a 240mm-plus AIO keeps clocks stable under sustained load. Buy the PSU from a reputable brand with the right PCIe power connectors for your GPU rather than chasing the cheapest wattage.

What monitor should I buy to match a 1440p gaming PC?

Get a 2560x1440 monitor with a high refresh rate, typically 144Hz to 240Hz, and adaptive sync (G-Sync or FreeSync) to eliminate tearing. A fast IPS panel is the all-round pick for colour and response time, while OLED is the premium choice for contrast and motion clarity. Match the refresh rate to your GPU's output so you actually use the frames it produces.

Can I buy a ready-built 1440p gaming PC in South Africa, and is it under warranty?

Yes. Evetech builds and stocks 1440p gaming PCs with current-gen GPUs and CPUs, assembled and tested in-house with local warranty and in-house RMA support. Delivery is nationwide, with fast courier options to the major metros. Every build above is in stock unless marked otherwise, so you are not waiting on grey imports.

Should I buy a prebuilt 1440p PC or build one myself?

A prebuilt Evetech 1440p PC is the safer route for most buyers: parts are matched for balance, cable-managed, stress-tested, and covered by a single local warranty. Building yourself gives full component choice but means sourcing parts, checking compatibility, and handling any faults per component. If you want a specific spec, use the configurable builds above rather than compromising on a fixed model.

1440p (2560x1440) delivers sharper visuals and better detail than 1080p while remaining more affordable and easier to drive than 4K. Ideal for competitive and immersive AAA gaming, 1440p balances high refresh rates with stunning image quality — perfect for gamers in South Africa looking for performance and value.

Top GPUs for smooth 1440p gaming include NVIDIA RTX 40/30-series and AMD Radeon RX 7000/6000-series. Look for GPUs with 8GB–16GB VRAM and strong rasterization and ray-tracing performance. Recommended: NVIDIA RTX 4070/4070 Ti/4080 or AMD RX 7800 XT/7900 XT for high FPS at ultra settings.

Choose a CPU that avoids bottlenecking your GPU: modern options are AMD Ryzen 5/7/9 (5000/7000 series) or Intel Core i5/i7/i9 (12th gen and newer). For high refresh-rate 1440p play, prioritize at least 6–8 cores with strong single-core performance. Pair with B550/X570 (AMD) or B660/Z690 (Intel) motherboards.

Aim for 16GB–32GB DDR4/DDR5 RAM (dual-channel) and fast NVMe SSD storage (500GB–2TB) for quick load times. Good airflow and a quality CPU cooler (air or AIO liquid) keep sustained performance during long gaming sessions in South Africa's varied climates.

Compare local retailers, online stores, and trusted system builders to find competitive pricing. Consider buying during sales, choosing last-gen components for savings, or building a custom PC to optimize value. Factor in warranty, shipping, and local support when purchasing in South Africa.
