Set the accounts up before the machine is ever handed over. Windows Family Safety only does its job when the child signs in with their own Microsoft account as a standard user rather than sharing a parent's login or a local account, and the limits then follow them onto any other Windows PC or Xbox they sign into. Screen-time caps can be set overall or per application, and a warning appears fifteen minutes before time runs out, which prevents an argument mid-match.
Platform-level controls have moved on too. Roblox has extended facial age estimation worldwide and now uses it to sort players into age bands, restricting chat to a player's own band and below; a parent can confirm a child's age through the account's parental controls instead of a selfie check. That has more effect on who your child can talk to than any hardware decision, so it is worth doing properly on the day the PC arrives.
