Buying a First Desktop for a Young Player
Buying for a child is a different exercise from buying for yourself. The games that matter at eight are not the ones that matter at fourteen, the machine will be moved and knocked, and the account setup around it matters as much as the parts inside it. Most of what younger players run leans lightly on hardware, so the money is better spent on a chassis and power supply that can carry a stronger graphics card in three years than on the fastest chip available today.
Two things are worth settling before you look at any specification. First, whether the same desktop also has to handle schoolwork, because that decides storage and whether separate sign-ins are needed. Second, where it will stand: a machine in a bedroom is judged on noise and heat far more than one on a desk in a lounge.
