Put yourdata first.
Western Digital has built storage for over 50 years, colour-coding its lineup so each drive matches its workload. WD Blue handles everyday desktops, Red Pro runs 24/7 NAS arrays up to 26TB, Purple records surveillance, Gold powers servers, and WD_BLACK NVMe SSDs push gaming and creator loads. Shop the range at Evetech, an authorised WD partner in South Africa.
Storage built for the job it does.
Reliability proven at scale.
WD drives run in data centres, NAS boxes, and home PCs worldwide, and the same engineering carries down from a Red Pro NAS spindle to the WD Blue in a desktop. Years of field-failure data feed into each generation's design targets.
The right drive for every workload.
Surveillance DVR running 24/7? Purple. Gaming rig hungry for fast loads? WD_BLACK. Multi-bay NAS holding the family archive? Red Pro. Rack-mount server workload? Gold. WD's colour-coded system takes the guesswork out: pick the tier and the engineering matches the job.
Features that protect your data.
NASware firmware for multi-bay arrays, AllFrame for surveillance streams, shock tolerance on portable drives, and 256-bit AES hardware encryption on My Passport models. WD drives are built to hold up against vibration, heat, drops, and time.

WD_BLACK SN850X, Red Pro, and Gold ship with 5-year limited warranties. WD Blue and entry SSDs carry 2 to 3 years.

Six colours. One system.
WD Red NAS Drives
NASware-tuned HDDs built for 24/7 operation in Synology, QNAP, and other multi-bay network storage. Red, Red Plus, and Red Pro span home offices through to large rack arrays, all engineered for vibration tolerance and heavy concurrent workloads, with Red Pro reaching 26TB.
WD Blue Mainstream
Dependable desktop HDDs plus mainstream SATA and NVMe SSDs for everyday computing, system upgrades, and bulk archive storage. The workhorse of the WD lineup, available from 500GB up to multi-terabyte capacities.
WD_BLACK Gaming SSDs
NVMe SSDs engineered for gamers and creators. The PCIe Gen4 SN850X reaches up to 7,300 MB/s reads, while the newer PCIe Gen5 SN8100 pushes far higher for demanding transfers, editing, and PS5-ready installs. Adaptive thermals and game-tuned loading throughout.
WD Purple Surveillance
AllFrame-optimised drives for DVR and NVR systems: always-on, write-heavy, and rated for many simultaneous HD camera streams. Purple Pro extends workload ratings up to 26TB for serious commercial surveillance builds.
WD Gold Enterprise
Enterprise-class HDDs engineered for data centres, rack-mount servers, and maximum workload endurance. High MTBF ratings, heavy annual workload allowances, and a 5-year warranty for the drives running data you cannot afford to lose.
My Passport Portable
Pocket-sized USB external drives with hardware password protection and 256-bit AES encryption. My Passport, My Passport Ultra, and My Passport SSD cover plug-and-play backup, travel storage, and fast portable scratch space, alongside WD Elements for simple bulk capacity.
Every job has a WD.
Faster loads, less waiting.
Game loads depend on storage speed. The WD_BLACK SN850X hits up to 7,300 MB/s reads with game-tuned loading, and the Gen5 SN8100 goes further for the fastest transfers. Both suit PS5 expansion and PC rigs that will not tolerate stutter.
Where creative work lives.
USB-C portable drives and high-capacity desktop externals for creators editing 4K and 6K video from a MacBook or studio rig. Fast, quiet, and built to keep up with timeline scrubbing and large exports.
24/7 NAS reliability.
NASware firmware, vibration compensation, and workload ratings tuned for Synology, QNAP, and multi-bay RAID. WD Red across the board: Red for home, Red Plus for power users, and Red Pro up to 26TB for serious commercial NAS.
Recording that never sleeps.
Many simultaneous HD camera streams, write-heavy 24/7 workloads, and DVR/NVR-optimised firmware. Regular desktop drives drop frames under this load, so Purple is engineered specifically for it.
Portable peace of mind.
Password protection, 256-bit AES encryption, and auto-backup software in a pocket-sized enclosure. My Passport keeps a verified copy of everything you cannot lose on a drive you can take anywhere.
Data centre grade.
High MTBF ratings, enterprise firmware, and heavy annual workload allowances. WD Gold is the class of drive that large cloud and analytics workloads run on, ready for your rack.
