The AM5 Socket and What Fits It
AM5 has carried AMD's desktop processors since 2022 and now holds two families at once: the Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 line and the Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 line that replaced it at the top. Both drop into the same socket and both run DDR5, so choosing between them is a question of what you want to spend rather than what will physically fit.
The board deserves more thought than most buyers give it. AM5 chipsets stretch from entry parts that cap tuning and sustained power up to models where USB4 is compulsory, and the numbering does not run in a straight line, because a larger number is sometimes a lower tier.
