The point of a kit is compatibility you do not have to verify yourself. What still needs checking is everything around it: the parts you intend to keep, the firmware on the board and whether your machine is actually limited by the platform at all.
Work through the items below in order. Socket and memory generation set the hard boundaries, firmware decides whether the board will start with the chip in it, memory configuration decides how much of the performance you actually receive, and platform longevity decides whether this is a stepping stone or an endpoint.
