How to Choose a CPU Cooler
The right cooler matches your CPU's heat output, your socket and your case. Use the guide below to choose.
Air coolers are reliable, quiet and great value, and handle most CPUs well. AIO liquid coolers cool high-wattage or overclocked chips more effectively and free up space around the socket. Either works — match it to your CPU and case.
Check the cooler's rated cooling capacity against your CPU's power draw. A higher-end or overclocked CPU needs a stronger air cooler or a larger AIO to avoid thermal throttling under sustained load.
Confirm the cooler supports your socket — AMD AM5 or Intel LGA 1851 on current builds (LGA 1700 on older ones). Most modern coolers include brackets for both, but always check.
Tall air coolers can clash with the case side panel or tall RAM; AIO radiators need space in the top or front of the case. Check your case's cooler-height and radiator-size limits first.
Larger AIO radiators (240mm, 280mm, 360mm) cool better and can run quieter at the same temperature. Balance cooling and noise with quality fans and a sensible fan curve.
