The Fractal Design Lumen S36 RGB is an all-in-one liquid cooler shipped with three Aspect 12 RGB fans, built to hold CPU temperatures through high-demand gaming. Its RGB lighting is customisable so the cooler can be matched to the rest of the build rather than fighting it. Fractal designed the S36 for easy installation, which puts it within reach of a first-time builder as well as an experienced one.

The Lumen S36 RGB is designed as a colour-coordinated cooling system, meaning the lighting on the pump block and the three Aspect 12 RGB fans can be set to the same scheme as your other components. Rather than adding one more independent light source to the case, it joins the palette you have already chosen.

The pump block's removable top rotates in 90-degree intervals, so the Fractal logo sits horizontal no matter which way the cooler has to be installed. It is a small detail that decides whether a finished build looks deliberate or has a sideways badge sitting in the middle of the glass panel.

The tubing is low-permeability rubber wrapped in braided nylon sleeving. Low permeability limits coolant loss through the tube wall over the cooler's life, and the nylon braid protects the rubber from abrasion where it passes case edges and cable runs.

Fractal calls the pump block a duality design: it holds a subtle appearance with the lighting off and an illuminated one with it on. Both states are controlled through your motherboard's RGB interface, so the cooler suits a clean, unlit build as well as a fully lit one.

Six ARGB LEDs sit in the cooler and can be customised from your motherboard or from a standalone controller. Having a controller path matters on a board without a spare addressable header, since it means the lighting still works without giving up a fan or RGB channel elsewhere.

The cold plate arrives with thermal paste pre-applied, removing the step where most first-time builders hesitate. There is no tube to squeeze, no spread pattern to judge and nothing to clean up if the first attempt goes wrong.

Articulating elbow fittings at the cold plate let the tubes swing to the angle your case needs, which makes routing easier and reduces stress on the cold plate housing. Fixed fittings are what force tight bends in a compact case, and those bends are where a loop takes the most strain.

The Lumen S36 RGB mounts on Intel LGA 1700 and AMD AM5 sockets, covering the current desktop platforms on both sides. That means the cooler fits a new Intel or AMD build without a bracket purchase, and it stays useful if you switch platform at your next upgrade.

Fractal designed the S36 to work with the most widespread socket configurations rather than a narrow set, which is what makes it a safe choice when the rest of the build is not yet decided. Broad socket support also means the cooler can be reused across more than one generation of machine.

The Aspect fans supplied with the S36 are designed for low turbulence, which is what keeps airflow smooth as it passes through a dense radiator. They also support chaining, so the three fans link to one another rather than each needing its own header on the motherboard.
