The Case for Compact

Desktop-class performance in a fraction of the space, drawing a fraction of the power. Here is why a mini PC works.

Litres, Not Towers

A Minisforum is a fraction of the volume of a mid-tower. Mount it behind a monitor, tuck it under a TV, or pack it in a bag.

Lower Power Draw

Mobile-class silicon pulls far less than a full desktop under load. With local tariffs, that adds up on the monthly bill.

Upgradeable

SODIMM RAM and M.2 NVMe slots on most models mean you can add memory and storage later rather than replacing the whole unit.

Multi-Display Output

HDMI, DisplayPort and USB4 combine to drive several independent monitors from a box that sits in your palm.

On-Device AI

Models with an NPU run local AI inference and Copilot tasks on the device, without sending data to the cloud.

Quiet Operation

Cold Wave cooling keeps most models quiet under load, and passively cooled units run silently.

How to Choose a Minisforum Mini PC

Minisforum builds mini PCs that put desktop-class silicon into a chassis smaller than a hardback book. Choosing the right one comes down to what you will run on it: a Venus or UM model handles office work, browsing and media comfortably, an EliteMini adds an AI NPU for Copilot and light creative tasks, and an MS-series mini workstation steps up to ECC memory, PCIe 5.0 and fast networking for editing, virtual machines and development.

Minisforum models span efficient U-class mobile chips through to high-core HS and HX parts and Intel Core Ultra on the workstation line. Everyday office and media use is happy on a mid-tier Ryzen with 16GB of DDR5; video editing, virtual machines or development benefit from a higher-core CPU and 32GB or more. Most units take two SODIMM sticks, so you can start modest and add memory later.

Check the rear panel against your setup. USB4 or Thunderbolt carries both data and video, HDMI and DisplayPort drive extra monitors, and 2.5G LAN or Wi-Fi 6E/7 covers networking. If you run multiple screens, confirm the model supports the number of independent 4K outputs you need before buying.

Small chassis run hotter, so cooling matters. Minisforum's Cold Wave design and liquid metal compound let higher-power models sustain load while staying quiet, and passively cooled units make no noise at all. If the mini PC sits on your desk or under a TV, a quieter model is worth prioritising.

Most Minisforum units let you upgrade RAM via SODIMM slots and add storage through M.2 NVMe. Some models expose an OCuLink port for an external desktop GPU, which turns a compact machine into a capable gaming or GPU-compute rig. Confirm which slots a specific model offers if future upgrades matter to you.

A mini PC draws a fraction of the power of a full tower, typically single-digit to low-double-digit watts at idle and well under 100W under sustained load. Over a year of daily use that is a meaningful saving on the electricity bill, which is a real consideration with local tariffs.

From there, match the CPU tier and RAM to your workload, check that the model has the ports and display outputs you need, and confirm upgrade paths for memory and storage. The factors below walk through the decisions that matter most before you buy.
