Plastered brick, concrete slabs between storeys and foil-backed insulation all absorb 5GHz signal heavily, which is why a unit rated for a large area in an open-plan test fails to reach the back bedroom of a 1970s house. Count the walls between the router and the furthest device you care about, then choose between one strong unit and several modest ones. Port speeds deserve a look too, since 100Mbps LAN sockets will throttle a cabled device no matter how the wireless is rated.

On standards, the practical local position is that ICASA released the lower 6GHz range for licence-exempt use in 2023 and reaffirmed it during 2026, so Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 equipment is usable here. Adoption is still thin, measured at a fraction of one percent of local Wi-Fi connections in early 2026, which mostly means the band is quiet for anyone whose devices can reach it.
