GTA 6 PC Specs · Predicted

GTA 6 PC requirements. — Plan now. Build right. Wait for the first patch.

Rockstar hasn't published official PC specs yet — and won't for months. But the PS5 baseline, RAGE engine history, and the Vice City + Leonida region's density give us enough signal to extrapolate the three tiers with high confidence.

Extrapolating from the PS5 / PS5 Pro baseline

GTA 6 is built for the current-generation consoles — PS5 / Xbox Series X with PS5 Pro support. Console hardware sets the development baseline, and PC ports historically target slightly above console performance at minimum settings on PC, scaling up to ultra at higher tiers.

PS5 hardware approximation: roughly equivalent to a Ryzen 5 5600 + RTX 2070 Super class. PS5 Pro approximation: roughly equivalent to a Ryzen 5 7600 + RTX 4070 class, with PSSR upscaling adding the equivalent of FSR/DLSS performance uplift.

If GTA 6 targets 1080p 30fps internal on PS5 base, 1440p 60fps with PSSR on PS5 Pro, then the PC minimum requirement to match base PS5 performance will land roughly at RTX 4060 / RX 7700 XT class. To exceed PS5 Pro performance comfortably, RTX 5070 / RX 9070 is the rational floor.

Minimum tier — 1080p 30fps medium

GTA 6 minimum specs
The 1080p entry tier.

For "I want to play GTA 6 on PC, I don't mind compromises, my budget is what it is." Targets equivalent to PS5 base experience.

ComponentPredicted minimum
GPURTX 4060 8GB / RX 7700 XT 12GB
CPURyzen 5 5600 / Core i5-12400F
RAM16GB DDR4-3200 / DDR5-5200
Storage150GB free on NVMe SSD (Gen 3+ minimum)
OSWindows 11 64-bit
PSU550W 80+ Bronze
Resolution / framerate1080p, 30fps target, medium settings

What this enables: stable single-player story mode at 30fps, GTA Online lobbies at variable fps in less-busy areas. Visual quality comparable to base PS5 experience — you're not getting ray tracing, the draw distance will be conservative, and you'll see texture pop-in.

Notable risk: the 8GB VRAM on RTX 4060 is increasingly the limiting factor in modern games. Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and Indiana Jones already strain 8GB at 1080p high. GTA 6 with its larger world and higher-fidelity assets may push 8GB cards harder than expected — RX 7700 XT 12GB is the safer minimum buy.

The tier we'd build for a customer who wants to enjoy GTA 6 properly without future-proofing for 4K. Targets PS5 Pro+ quality with DLSS / FSR upscaling enabled.

ComponentPredicted recommended
GPURTX 5070 12GB / RX 9070 16GB
CPURyzen 7 7800X3D (best) or Core Ultra 7 265K
RAM32GB DDR5-6000 CL30
Storage200GB free on NVMe Gen 4 SSD (3,500MB/s+)
OSWindows 11 64-bit
PSU750W 80+ Gold
Resolution / framerate1440p, 60-100fps target, high settings + DLSS / FSR

Why Ryzen 7 7800X3D for CPU: Rockstar's RAGE engine has historically benefited heavily from CPU L3 cache size. Red Dead Redemption 2 saw 15-20% framerate gains on Ryzen 7 5800X3D versus 5800X non-X3D. Expect this trend to intensify in GTA 6 due to the larger NPC count and denser simulation. The 7800X3D's 96MB L3 cache is the single best CPU spec for Rockstar engines available today.

RAM target: 32GB is the right call for GTA 6. The base game will probably fit in 16GB, but GTA Online lobbies, streaming overlays, Discord, browser tabs and background apps add up. 32GB is also the smart move for future-proofing — by 2027 it's normal, not luxury.

4K Ultra tier — the GTA 6 reference experience

GTA 6 4K Ultra specs
The reference experience.

For 4K 60fps+ at ultra settings with ray tracing enabled, or 4K 100fps+ with DLSS 4 / FSR 4 Performance. The "I want the GTA 6 reference experience" build.

ComponentPredicted 4K ultra
GPURTX 5080 16GB / RX 9070 XT 24GB (RTX 5090 for path tracing)
CPURyzen 9 7950X3D / Ryzen 7 9800X3D / Core Ultra 9 285K
RAM32GB DDR5-6400 CL30 (64GB for streamers / creators)
Storage500GB+ free on NVMe Gen 4 or Gen 5 SSD
OSWindows 11 64-bit
PSU850W 80+ Gold (1000W for RTX 5090)
Resolution / framerate4K, 60-120fps target, ultra + RT + DLSS / FSR Quality

RT and path tracing: Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 uses ray-traced lighting on PS5. PC ports usually get a "RT Ultra" or full path tracing mode that pushes hardware much harder. Expect path tracing at 4K to require RTX 5090 + DLSS 4 + frame generation to hit comfortable framerates. RT Medium / High at 4K should be playable on RTX 5080.

RAM scaling: if you stream, record OBS gameplay, run multiple monitors with Discord + browser, or alt-tab to Chrome with 30+ tabs, 32GB will feel tight. 64GB DDR5-6000 has become the sensible upgrade for content creators in 2026 and is what we'd recommend for any 4K ultra build that doubles as a productivity machine.

Storage — 150GB+ on NVMe (not optional)

GTA V on PC launched at ~65GB and grew to 100GB+ over its lifetime. GTA 6, with substantially higher-fidelity assets, ray-traced textures and a larger world, will almost certainly install at 150GB+ minimum on day one, and grow toward 200-250GB over the first year as Online updates ship.

NVMe is not optional. Rockstar designed GTA 6's streaming engine for PS5's custom NVMe SSD architecture. The PC port will assume flash IOPS for texture and asset streaming. Playing GTA 6 from a SATA SSD will work technically but with notable texture pop-in and traversal stutter during fast vehicles or aircraft. Playing from a mechanical HDD will likely be unsupported (matches the RDR2 PC requirement).

NVMe tier recommendations:

  • Minimum: any 1TB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe at 3,000+ MB/s sequential read. Crucial P3 Plus, WD Blue SN570. R900-R1,400.
  • Recommended: 1TB or 2TB Gen 4 NVMe at 5,000-7,000 MB/s. Crucial T500, WD Black SN770, Samsung 990 Pro. R1,400-R3,200.
  • Premium: 2TB Gen 5 NVMe at 12,000+ MB/s. Crucial T705, Samsung 9100 Pro, WD Black SN8100. R3,500-R6,500. Diminishing returns for gaming but unrivalled for content creators.

SA pricing at each tier (2026 baseline)

TierFull SA build estimate
Minimum (1080p 30fps medium)R22,000-R28,000
Recommended (1440p 60fps high)R35,000-R45,000
4K Ultra (4K 60fps+ RT)R55,000-R80,000
4K + Path Tracing (RTX 5090)R85,000-R110,000

Launch-window pricing realism: RTX 5070 / RX 9070 GPU pricing in SA in May 2026 sits roughly at GPU MSRP + 18-25% — that's the typical SA distribution premium plus VAT. Rand-Dollar exchange and import cycles can swing this 10-15% within months. Don't expect 2025 pricing to hold to 2027 PC launch — adjust budget targets for inflation and FX.

The "wait for the first patch" advice

Rockstar's PC port history is a recurring lesson:

  • GTA V PC (2015): launch crashes, Online matchmaking broken, rubber-banding in races. Mostly resolved by patch 1.27 about 3 weeks post-launch.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 PC (2019): infamous launch with crashes, Vulkan API instability, performance issues. First major patch (1.04) shipped 3 weeks post-launch and made the game playable. Further patches across 6 months fixed remaining issues.
  • GTA IV PC (2008): the disaster benchmark. Games for Windows Live, framerate cap, severe performance issues across all hardware tiers. Patched extensively over 18 months.

The pattern: Rockstar PC ports ship with significant issues that get largely fixed within 3-6 weeks of launch, then continue to receive optimisation patches over 6-12 months.

What this means for GTA 6 PC:

  • Don't pre-order. Rockstar games hold their price well after launch. There's no upside to committing money before reviews land.
  • Don't buy a build the week of launch. Wait 4-6 weeks to see what works and what doesn't.
  • Watch the first patch notes. The first major patch will reveal which hardware bottlenecks Rockstar identified and fixed.
  • Watch Hardware Unboxed and Daniel Owen. Their day-one and day-30 performance reviews will tell you everything you need to know about real hardware requirements.

Future-proofing your GTA 6 build

If you're building today and want the PC to be GTA 6-ready when it launches in 2027:

  • Choose AM5 / LGA 1851: both platforms have at least 3 more years of CPU upgrade headroom. Don't buy a dead-end AM4 or LGA 1700 platform for a 2027+ game.
  • Buy 32GB DDR5 now: futureproof against any RAM creep. Cheap enough today (R1,600-R2,400) to make 16GB feel false-economy.
  • Aim for RTX 5070 / RX 9070 minimum: the RTX 4060 will technically run GTA 6 but at compromised settings. The 5070 lives in the comfortable zone for 4+ years.
  • 2TB NVMe Gen 4 at minimum: 1TB fills up surprisingly fast.
  • 750W+ PSU: headroom for a future GPU upgrade without replacing the PSU.
  • Modern case + cooling: a Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RTX 5070 + 2 NVMe + 32GB build runs hotter than your current PC. Plan for it.
