Twenty-five years of building SA's PCs
Evetech started in 1999 in Pretoria, three years before the Consumer Protection Act was even a draft Bill. The original brief was simple and hasn't changed: build great PCs for South Africans, support them properly, and stay specialist instead of going wide. Twenty-five years and two-hundred-thousand-plus systems later, that's still the brief.
In hardware retail, longevity is everything. The SA market has burned through dozens of PC retailers in that quarter-century — chains that opened with fanfare and quietly closed when GPU prices crashed, or when crypto died, or when supply chains broke during 2020-2021. Surviving the cycles requires two things: deep relationships with the SA distributors (Pinnacle, Drive Control, MicroAtlantic, Esquire) and a service operation that customers actually return to. The fact that we're still here, building, in the same Centurion building, with the same gaming-first specialism, is the point.
Our Centurion warehouse — a working build floor, not a showroom — is where every custom PC happens. Components arrive from authorised SA distributors, get inventoried, then move to the build bay. Bay 1: assembly. Bay 2: QA and 48-hour burn-in. Bay 3: pack and dispatch. The same flow for the first PC in 1999 and the most recent one shipped this morning. The tooling has improved (we have actual thermal imaging now, instead of a hand near the case vent) but the discipline hasn't moved.
What we do that other retailers don't

BIOS flashed to latest stable
Every motherboard gets its BIOS updated to the latest manufacturer-stable release before the OS install. Avoids the "my AM5 build won't POST with new RAM" problem most first-time builders hit. - 04 · Build bay
Cable management done right

48-hour burn-in stress test
Furmark on the GPU, Prime95 on the CPU, AIDA64 memory test on RAM. 48 hours of continuous load surfaces infant-mortality failures (a bad memory stick, a marginal PSU) before the PC leaves the warehouse. - 06 · QA bay
Thermal verification documented

A second pair of eyes inspects the build for cable dress, fan direction, RGB sync, screws fully seated, and matches the build to the order. The seal-and-courier handoff only happens after sign-off.
In-house warranty — your problem, our floor
When a component fails in a typical "build it for you" retailer's PC, you're usually pointed at the manufacturer. Send the GPU to MSI SA. Send the motherboard to Asus SA. RMA the PSU through whoever distributes it. You handle the courier. You wait. The retailer's job ended at delivery.
Evetech's warranty model is the opposite. If anything in your custom-built PC fails inside the warranty window, you ship it to our Centurion service centre, we deal with the manufacturer RMA on your behalf, and we courier the working system back. Same SA address, same team, same WhatsApp number that took your order. The Consumer Protection Act protects you for the first 6 months. Our workmanship cover protects you for the assembly. The manufacturer parts cover protects you for the components.
In practice this means a faulty GPU at month 14 isn't your problem to chase — it's ours. We diagnose, we package, we send to Pinnacle / Drive Control / Esquire, we test the replacement before re-installing it in your PC, and we ship it back. You spend 30 minutes packaging the PC; we spend the next 3-5 days fixing it. That's the deal.
Authorised SA stock only — no grey-market surprises
A grey import is a product brought into SA outside the manufacturer's authorised distribution channel. It's still technically a real product — just imported in someone's suitcase from Singapore or shipped via a parallel channel from the EU. For most of consumer electronics this is fine. For PC hardware it's a trap.
When a grey-import GPU fails 18 months in, Asus SA / MSI SA / Gigabyte SA won't touch it. The serial number is registered to another region; the warranty database doesn't recognise it. You're stuck couriering the card back to wherever it came from at your own cost, with no guaranteed turnaround. We see this every month in our service queue — customers who bought from a generic online retailer, only to discover their three-year warranty is actually a no-warranty.
Every component sold by Evetech is sourced through authorised SA distribution: Pinnacle, Drive Control Corporation, MicroAtlantic, Esquire. The manufacturer warranty is registered to SA. RMA pathways are pre-established and usually turn around in 5-10 business days. The component-level peace of mind matters most on a R20,000 GPU or a R6,000 high-end motherboard — exactly the parts most worth grey-importing for a R500 saving and most expensive to lose to a dead warranty.
Gaming-first product curation
Walk into any big-box SA electronics retailer and you'll find PCs filed somewhere between dishwashers and rice cookers. The PC is one of forty product categories that retailer is trying to be average at. The staff doesn't game; the buyer doesn't know what AM5 is; the QA process is "did it boot in-store?"
Evetech's catalogue is the opposite. Every category — gaming PCs, CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSDs, cases, cooling, PSUs, monitors, keyboards, mice, chairs, headsets — exists because it's part of building or upgrading a gaming or workstation system. We don't stock home appliances. We don't have a TV department. We don't sell smartphones. That single-category focus is the unfair advantage — when a customer asks "which 1440p 144Hz monitor pairs best with an RTX 5070 Ti at this budget", the question is in our team's daily vocabulary.

25 years of couriering full PC towers nationally taught us where the failure modes are. The GPU bracket is the single most fragile point — a 1.5kg+ card hanging off a PCIe slot, vibrating for 1,000 km of road. The PSU shifts. The CPU cooler can torque the motherboard. The case door panel flexes. We've solved every one of these in our transit packaging.
Our standard transit setup: custom foam-cut around the GPU body (not just the bracket), dense reusable GPU-support brace clipped inside the case during transit, additional foam over the AIO radiator if fitted, double-walled outer box with internal anti-flex bracing.
