So even if RTX 50-Super launches in Q4 2026, getting one at a realistic price likely means waiting until Q2 2027. That's potentially 12+ months of waiting from a May 2026 decision point. Almost half the lifespan of the current generation.

How the trap works:

  1. "I'll wait 6 months for the new gen." You commit to wait.

  3. "I'll wait until prices stabilise." Now you're waiting 3-4 more months.
  4. Prices stabilise but the Ti variant is rumoured. "I'll just wait for that — it's only a few months away."
  5. Ti launches. By now there are rumours of the next-next-gen.
  6. Cycle continues indefinitely. You never buy. Years pass.

The trap exploits two cognitive biases: (1) sunk-cost fallacy — "I've already waited 6 months, I might as well wait for the next thing", and (2) loss aversion — fear of buying just before something better launches outweighs the realised loss of not having a GPU now.

Escape the trap by setting a hard buy-date. "If RTX 50-Super isn't priced reasonably and in stock by 31 January 2027, I'm buying RTX 5070 instead." Pre-committing prevents the infinite-wait pattern.
