What This Ceiling Buys in a Laptop Right Now

This budget reaches genuinely good general-purpose machines: current mainstream Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen processors, 16GB of memory, an NVMe SSD and a screen worth looking at all day. What it rarely reaches is a premium chassis and discrete graphics in the same laptop.

So settle that question before comparing models. If the work is documents, browsers, meetings and study, put the budget into the panel, the keyboard and the battery. Gaming and GPU-accelerated creative work push you towards a heavier body with a dimmer screen at the same outlay.
