What does the H in Modern 15 H mean?

It marks a 45W-class Intel processor in place of the 15W U-series part. In practice those models compile, render and export considerably faster, run measurably warmer under sustained load, and give up unplugged runtime to do it.

Can I upgrade the RAM myself?

On most generations, yes. The modules sit in SO-DIMM sockets beneath the base panel, DDR4-3200 on the 13th-generation machines and DDR5 on the Core Ultra ones. Match the standard and speed already fitted, and fill both sockets so the memory runs in dual channel.

Is this a gaming laptop?

No. There is no discrete GPU anywhere in the line and the cooling is sized for productivity loads rather than sustained frame rendering. Esports titles at 1080p on low settings are the realistic ceiling for the Arc integrated graphics.

How does Modern compare with MSI's Venture and Prestige lines?

Modern is the value tier. Venture, introduced for 2026, sits above it with a sturdier build and discrete graphics options. Prestige is the premium end, with magnesium-aluminium chassis work, OLED panels and the lightest bodies MSI makes. Climbing the ladder buys screen and chassis quality more than processor speed.

Does it charge over USB-C?

The USB-C port supports power delivery on current models, so a dock or travel adapter can keep it topped up. Match or exceed the wattage printed on the supplied adapter, because an H-series build under sustained load draws more than a compact phone charger provides.

Which configuration suits video editing?

A Core Ultra H build with 32GB of memory and a second M.2 drive dedicated to media. Intel Arc integrated graphics accelerate common codecs well enough for 1080p projects and short 4K work; long-form 4K grading belongs on a machine with discrete graphics.

How rugged is the chassis?

It is a slim consumer-grade build aimed at bag-to-desk use rather than a ruggedised machine. MSI publishes no drop or vibration rating for this line, so treat the thin lid as something worth protecting with a padded sleeve.

What warranty and support apply in South Africa?

Each listing states the warranty term for that stock code, and faults are logged through Evetech's in-house RMA process at our Centurion premises. Have the serial number and invoice reference ready when you open a case, since both are needed to start a repair.

MSI's Entry Rung Outside the Gaming Range

Modern sits at the base of MSI's non-gaming ladder, below the Venture and Prestige tiers. The 15.6-inch body keeps a full-size HDMI output and a microSD reader, and unlike most thin-and-lights at the same weight it leaves memory and storage serviceable under the base panel.

U-Series or H-Series: The Choice That Defines the Machine

One name covers two quite different laptops. U-series builds run 15W-class silicon and behave like an ultraportable, quiet and cool and undemanding. The H variants drop a 45W-class processor into the same shell, which is why a Core i9-13900H or Core Ultra 7 155H model finishes an export sooner, spins its fans harder and empties its battery faster.

These boards use SO-DIMM modules rather than soldered memory packages, and several generations provide two M.2 bays. That is unusual at this thickness and it changes the buying maths: an 8GB or 16GB machine can be raised later, and a second drive can be added for project files without displacing the boot drive.

Some Modern 15 H AI configurations carry a 39.3Wh three-cell pack, which is modest for a 15.6-inch machine driving a 45W processor. Other builds in the family use larger packs. Check the watt-hour figure printed on the exact listing, because it predicts unplugged runtime far better than the processor name does.

Panels here are 15.6-inch 1920x1080 IPS in a 16:9 shape, matte and sensible for spreadsheets and long documents. OLED, high refresh and wide-gamut coverage are not offered at this level; MSI reserves them for Prestige. If print or video colour accuracy is the job, that is the range to look at instead.

Core Ultra models carry Intel Arc integrated graphics, which cope with timeline scrubbing, hardware video encoding and light 3D. Earlier Iris Xe and Radeon builds are weaker again. None of them are gaming silicon, and MSI puts discrete GeForce hardware in its gaming and Venture machines rather than here.

Expect roughly 1.7 to 1.9 kg depending on generation, at about 20 mm thick. Connectivity runs to several USB Type-A sockets, a USB-C port with power delivery, HDMI, a microSD reader and a headset jack. The camera is 720p on most builds, so budget for an external webcam if you present regularly.

MSI's 2026 refresh moved the series onto Intel Core Ultra Series 3 silicon under the Modern S name, while Core Ultra 155H and 13th-generation H stock remains widely available. Read the suffix on each listing, such as A5M, A11M, B13M or C1M, because it identifies the platform, the memory standard and which integrated graphics are inside.
