What R10,000 Buys, and What It Does Not

Be clear about the trade before you shop. Below R10,000 a laptop almost always relies on the graphics built into its processor rather than a separate graphics chip, because a discrete GPU, the cooling it needs and the chassis to hold both push a machine into a higher bracket. That does not make the category pointless. It makes it a category with a specific job: competitive and older titles at 1080p, plus everything else a student or first-time buyer needs from a computer.

Within that job, the choices that change your frame rate are not the ones the marketing focuses on. Memory configuration, drive type and how long the chassis holds its clocks matter far more than the processor model on the sticker.
